My Miraculous Journey

From Intensive Care to Intensive Living
Books

ABOUT THE BOOK

An out-of-the-blue” cancer diagnosis sends Vee Howell’s life into a spiraling free-fall. Like an experienced pilot, she seeks to regain control; however the “standard operating procedures” don’t seem to apply to her case. Doctors struggled to provide a specific diagnosis. Through it all, she was able to daily declare to the medical staff, “I’m going to be the best patient you ever had.”  Following extensive deliberation, the medical team proceeded with a bone marrow transplant.. a first on a person of her age. What follows is truly a miraculous journey.

Her story, supplemented by her family support team, will surely inspire those who are experiencing major medical challenges and provide hope and encouragement for those who serve as caregivers. She firmly believes in her church cancer ministry motto, “No one should have to go through cancer alone.”

In Vernell Howell's book, "My Miraculous Journey", we get four compelling stories richly woven together.  We gat a nail biting mystery, a medical detective story that takes us to the cutting edge of a search for a cure.  We get a story of devotion and sacrifice by her two wonderful children, Tonja H. Jolly and Darryl Howell.  we also get the story of Tom Howell's love and commitment-a husband whose nerves of steel developed as an Air Force officer are put to the test.  Every man can learn by his example.

And we have Vernell Howell's iron will and testament of faith.  Yes, that faith is tested-her medical condition was as close to being fatal as you can get.  But in the end, we see that faith grow stronger.  We see what miracles are made of.

"My Miraculous Journey" makes for a modern-day version of a Biblical journey in which the road to salvation seems blocked-until one day the traveler discovers a way has been made out of no way.

Howell writes, "I pray this book will inspire and uplift someone who is facing major medical challenges."  I believe it will.  But I also know that you need not be struggling with illness to benefit from her words.

For those who are simply wrangling with daily living, you, too, will be inspired.

Vernell Howell's first book recounts her compelling and inspiring victory over cancer.  After a shocking diagnosis of lymphatic cancer, Vernell, with no hesitation, focused on family, faith, and fighting.  This affirming message of hope and healing is a must read.

Vernell Howell is a paragon of faith and hope in the face of adversity!  The positive demeanor she conveys in her difficult struggle with cancer deflects and rejects any modicum of sympathy others might bestow on her.  My life continues to be Blessed, enriched, nurtured and inspired by her bold and unabashed witness.  To God be the glory!

Vernell (Vee) Howell is a wife, mother, grandmother and retired science teacher. She has been recognized for her many years of service with youth and young adult ministries. Her husband once told a youth group, “You may get upset with Mrs. Howell because of her no-frills honesty, but you will never encounter anyone who loves you more.” She took a hiatus to deal with cancer. Now she’s back in service, which is all she has ever wanted to do.
